Michael Grabner scored a natural hat trick to lead the New York Rangers past the Carolina Hurricanes, 5-1. Justin Williams scored :56 seconds into the game to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead. The goal was Williams' 700th point for his career. The score would remain 1-0 after the first period. In the seconds, Carolina goalie Scott Darling would mishandle a puck in front of his own net, allowing David Deshrnais to tie the game, 1-1. Only 1:05 later, Grabner would score his first goal to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead. Grabner would score two empty net goals in the third before Paul Carey would cap off the scoring with a power play goal.
