“The A Champion” had grand plans for his NXT North American Championship defense at NXT Stand & Deliver, but chaotic brutality came calling instead. In an attempt to retain the title the way it was introduced, Carmelo Hayes battled Cameron Grimes, Grayson Waller, Solo Sikoa and Santos Escobar in a Fatal 5-Way Ladder Match.

Hayes was flying high with some early moonsaults, taking out multiple competitors outside the squared circle. A springing clothesline from “The A Champion” leveled Waller off the ladder and appeared to open the door for a retention, but Sikoa and Escobar smashed their way in. Escobar delivered an absolutely devastating Sunset Flip Powerbomb to Sikoa from one ladder onto the other that reverberated throughout the entire American Airlines Center.

The presence of Sanga, Legado del Fantasma and Trick Williams at ringside only upped the mayhem, as Elektra Lopez got in the face of Sanga when he tried to assist Waller, and Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza attacked him.

Grimes halted Williams’ misguided climb up the ladder, which invited all five competitors to try and scale the steps to glory. As the dust settled, Waller went all-out for his viral moment when he leapt from atop a ladder at ringside and attempted to drive his elbow through the heart of Hayes. Unfortunately for Waller, he came up empty as Hayes scrambled off the ladder, and the trash-talking Superstar was left with only the unforgiving steel to break his fall from grace.

With one more flurry of action, Grimes nailed another Cave In on Escobar and climbed the steps straight to the moon and the North American Title. The NXT Universe erupted as Grimes raised the gold at the top of the ladder and dedicated the victory to his late father in an emotional title celebration.
