Pirates look to build momentum in series opener vs. Tigers The Pittsburgh Pirates and visiting Detroit Tigers each have 47 wins heading into a two-game interleague series that begins Tuesday.
Osvaldo Bido - Back in rotation Wednesday Bido is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Tigers at PNC Park, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact Bido made his most recent appearance out of the bullpen, serving as a primary pitcher and covering three scoreless innings behind opener Ryan Borucki in a July 22 win over the Angels. The Pirates were able to get by with a four-man rotation last week, but Bido will return to a starting role while Tuesday's series opener versus the Tigers kicks off a stretch of 16 games in as many days.

Rich Hill - Punches out seven in no-decision Hill did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over five innings against the Phillies. He struck out seven.
Impact Hill held the Phillies off the board until the fourth inning Sunday, when Alex Bohm broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer. Still, it was a step in the right direction for the 43-year-old southpaw after he'd pitched to a 6.30 ERA over his previous four outings. Overall, Hill is 7-10 through 22 starts (119 innings) this season with a 4.76 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 104:47 K:BB. His next start is currently lined up for next week against the Brewers.

Josh Palacios - Walks off Philly Palacios went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Phillies.
Impact Palacios capped a big day at the plate with a two-run homer off Andrew Vasquez in the bottom of the 10th inning, powering the Pirates to a 6-4 win. It's Palacios' second home run of the season -- he's now 4-for-6 in two games since he was recalled from Triple-A on Friday. Overall, the 28-year-old outfielder is slashing .252/.284/.396 with 15 RBI, eight runs scored and a steal across 117 plate appearances this season.

Tucupita Marcano - Likely requires surgery Marcano said Sunday that he will likely require surgery to address ligament damage in his right knee, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact Marcano injured his knee Monday in San Diego and was placed on the 60-day injured list a day later, officially ruling him out until late September. The Pirates' decision to quickly move Marcano to the 60-day IL already implied that a return before the end of the 2023 season was unlikely, and knee surgery would make that outcome official. If Marcano's season is in fact over, he'll finish with a .233/.276/.356 slash line to go with three home runs and five stolen bases across 220 plate appearances.

Impact Peguero has been pushed out of playing time in the middle infield in recent days with Nick Gonzales serving as the primary starter at second base and Alika Williams at shortstop. However, Peguero made the case for more playing time by hitting his second big-league homer and also rolling an RBI single through the right side of the infield. Impact Priester struggled with his command for most of the afternoon, issuing a walk to Kyle Schwarber in the first at-bat of the game before hitting Brandon Marsh with a pitch in the top of the third. The right-hander still managed to get through the first innings unscathed despite his command issues, but it caught up with him in the fourth when he allowed four runs to come across following two early walks. Despite the poor outing in which he walked a season-high six batters, Priester was able to come away with his second straight win while also marking a season high with seven strikeouts. He now holds a 9.19 ERA through his first three major league starts to go along with an ugly 13:11 K:BB.
