Ke'Bryan Hayes - Swipes bag in return Hayes went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Dodgers.
Impact Hayes had a minimal stay on the injured list due to lower-back stiffness. He was able to pick up his ninth steal of the season, but offense was limited for the Pirates against Julio Urias and the Dodgers' bullpen. Hayes hit .337 (28-for-83) over 21 games in June prior to his injury, and he'll look to get back on track quickly. For the season, the third baseman owns a .252/.290/.393 slash line with five home runs, 32 RBI and 34 runs scored over 75 contests.

Johan Oviedo - Falters in LA Oviedo (3-10) took the loss Thursday versus the Dodgers, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over 6.2 innings.
Impact Oviedo gave up a two-run home run to Freddie Freeman in the first inning, but then retired 15 of the next 17 batters. In the sixth, Oviedo ran into more trouble with Max Muncy taking him deep for another two-run blast that decided the game. With five homers allowed over his last four starts, Oviedo's had some issues keeping the ball down. He's also lost six straight outings, though some of them were of the hard-luck variety. He's at a 4.75 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 87:40 K:BB through 100.1 innings over 18 starts this season.

Impact In what had the potential to be a breakout season, Contreras has struggled mightily. He lost his rotation spot in mid-June and has since been hit hard out of the bullpen. All told, he has a 6.59 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. Even so, if he can rediscover his stuff in Indianapolis, there's a strong chance that Contreras returns to the majors before the end of the campaign.

Impact Contreras has been working in bulk relief after being removed from the rotation in mid-June. He's particularly struggled in his last two outings, allowing seven earned runs across 3.1 frames. On Wednesday, he entered the game with a two-run lead but promptly walked two of the first three batters he faced before serving up back-to-back homers. The Pirates have an open spot in the rotation after Luis Ortiz was demoted to Triple-A, but Contreras isn't likely to be an option due to his recent form.

Yordany De Los Santos - Promoted to Bradenton De Los Santos was promoted to Single-A Bradenton on Tuesday.
Impact De Los Santos began the campaign in the FCL, where he maintained a 124 wRC+ while striking out at only a 14.1 percent clip across 78 plate appearances. The 18-year-old will likely spend the rest of the season with Bradenton. Though De Los Santos is several years away from the majors, he has strong bat speed and the athleticism to play both shortstop and third base.

Impact The outfielder has homered in back-to-back games and four times over his last nine contests, going 10-for-27 (.370) over the longer span. Suwinski has matched his career high with 19 long balls, doing so in 76 games this year compared to 106 contests in 2022. He's slugging .522 through 282 plate appearances, but he's still batting just .235 despite his recent uptick in performance.

Impact Bido left the game with the Pirates ahead, but he wouldn't have qualified for the win after a second straight short start. The four walks were a season high for the right-hander, who needed 81 pitches (46 strikes) to complete four frames. He's now at a 4.70 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB over 23 innings through five starts.
