Royals designate RHP Philip Humber for assignment
The Kansas City Royals have designated pitcher Philip Humber for
assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for newly acquired
outfielder Jeff Francoeur.
The move was announced Wednesday. The Royals have 10 days to
trade, release or send Humber outright to the minors.
Humber went 2-1 for Kansas City last season with a 4.15 ERA in
eight games, including one start. He earned his first major league
win Aug. 25 with three scoreless innings of relief against
The 27-year-old right-hander also appeared in 21 games,
including 20 starts, for Triple-A Omaha in 2010, finishing 5-6 with
a 4.47 ERA.
Humber was selected No. 3 overall by the New York Mets in the
2004 amateur draft.
