Shelby Miller reportedly drawing interest from Dodgers, Giants

The rival Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants both are in need of starting pitching this offseason, and might be going head-to-head for one of MLB's best young starters.

According to an ESPN report, the Dodgers and Giants have both reached out the Atlanta Braves about the availability of right-handed starter Shelby Miller.

Despite an unsightly 6-17 record last season, the 25-year-old maintained a 3.02 ERA with 171 strikeouts in 205 1/3 innings over 33 starts, notching two shutouts in the process.

In his three full seasons in the majors, two of which were spent with the St. Louis Cardinals, Miller has held a 3.22 ERA with 483 strikeouts versus 207 walks in 575 1/3 innings.

The Braves recently traded star shortstop Andrelton Simmons, which indicates they might be open to dealing a budding star pitcher in Miller as well.

While the NL West rivals are both reportedly showing interest in one of the best young starters, the Dodgers are also reportedly interested in one of the best veteran arms in the game.

According to FOX Sports baseball insider Ken Rosenthal, Los Angeles has shown interest in 37-year-old right-hander John Lackey.

The 13-year veteran is coming off a terrific age-36 season in which he notched a 13-10 record while holding a 2.77 ERA with 175 strikeouts against 53 walks in 218 innings for the Cardinals, finishing ninth in the NL Cy Young voting.
