Reds place Homer Bailey on DL with shoulder injury

Published May. 27, 2011 6:52 p.m. ET

The slumping Cincinnati Reds have placed right-hander Homer Bailey on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury.

Bailey had an MRI on Friday morning that showed a sprained posterior capsule in his right shoulder. Manager Dusty Baker says there's no timetable for Bailey's return.

Right-hander Mike Leake was recalled from Triple-A Louisville to start Friday night against the Braves. Leake is starting in place of struggling righty Edinson Volquez, who was optioned to Louisville on Monday.

Bailey left Thursday's 10-4 loss at Philadelphia after four innings with the injury. His early exit put more stress on the staff one day after a 19-inning loss to the Phillies.

Relievers Matt Maloney and Aroldis Chapman also are on the DL.
