Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino underwent surgery on his lower back in Los Angeles on Tuesday for a disk injury and is expected to be out for the remainder of the season.
The 33-year-old Victorino has been on and off the disabled list this season, playing only 30 games because of hamstring and back problems.
On July 30, Victorino reinjured his back in a game against Toronto.

With his limited appearances on the field this season, Victorino hit .268 with two home runs, 12 RBI and two stolen bases.
The right fielder is signed for $13 million next season.
