The Tampa Bay Rays have activated infielder Sean Rodriguez from the 15-day disabled list.
The move was made Saturday before the Rays played the New York Yankees. Rodriguez had been sidelined since Aug. 31 after breaking his right hand when he punched a locker at Triple-A Durham.
Rodriguez was not in the starting lineup and he may not be ready to hit yet. But manager Joe Maddon says Rodriguez could be used as a defensive replacement or pinch-runner.
Rodriguez was batting .215 with six homers and 32 RBIs in 106 games for Tampa Bay. He was optioned to Durham on Aug. 21.

The Rays began the day three games behind New York and Baltimore, who were tied for first place in the AL East.
