LOS ANGELES (AP) Matt Moore of the San Francisco Giants is pitching a no-hitter through eight innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Moore had thrown 119 pitches Thursday night at Dodger Stadium, striking out seven and walking three. The Giants led 4-0.

Speedy Giants center fielder Denard Span made the defensive play of the game in the second inning, racing far into the left-center field gap for an outstanding catch on a slicing drive by Adrian Gonzalez.

Moore is seeking his first win since being traded from Tampa Bay to the Giants earlier this month. The 27-year-old lefty was 0-3 in his first four starts for San Francisco.

Moore missed most of the 2014 and 2015 seasons after having Tommy John surgery.

The Giants began the day three games behind the NL West-leading Dodgers.
