Dodgers beef up bench by signing veteran OF Venable

PHOENIX (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed veteran outfielder Will Venable to a one-year contract.

The Dodgers also optioned catcher/outfielder Austin Barnes to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room on the roster before Tuesday night's game against Arizona.

The 33-year-old Venable was released by the Cleveland Indians in spring training and most recently was with the Philadelphia Phillies' Triple-A team before being released. He played for the San Diego Padres from 2010-15 before being traded to Texas.

Venable is a.251 hitter with 81 home runs and 307 RBIs in 995 career games.
