Dodgers activate lefty Elbert off disabled list

Published Aug. 19, 2012 2:47 p.m. ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated left-hander Scott Elbert from the 15-day disabled list and optioned utility player Elian Herrera to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Elbert was placed on the DL on July 26 with left elbow inflammation. He is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 39 games.

Herrera was recalled from Albuquerque on Monday. He was hitting .244 with one homer, 16 RBIs and four steals while making starts at second base, third base and each outfield position.

Sunday's moves leave the Dodgers with a thin bench and an eight-man bullpen.
