Braves name John Hart president of baseball operations
The Atlanta Braves have named John Hart as their new president of baseball operations, as first reported by FOX Sports 1 Insider Ken Rosenthal.
Hart has signed a three-year deal through Dec. 31, 2017.
“I’m delighted that John Hart has agreed to accept the position of President, Baseball Operations,” Braves president John Schuerholz said in a statement. “Our organization is now poised to move forward in the best possible manner to do the important work that lies ahead. John’s credentials speak for themselves. He has had great success as a baseball executive and demonstrated remarkable ability to construct championship teams. We are excited by John’s dynamic and positive leadership style and look forward to him leading our baseball operations.”
Hart took over as the team's interim general manager during the final week of the regular season after then-GM Frank Wren was fired. According to a Yahoo Sports report, Hart then was offered the full-time GM position but turned it down.
According to Rosenthal, Atlanta is expected to name a GM to work under Hart.
Hart has served as the GM of the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers during his long career in the majors. The Braves hired him as a senior advisor in 2013.
