Blue Jays place Sanchez on 15-day disabled list

NEW YORK (AP) The Toronto Blue Jays have placed right-hander Aaron Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list with a mild lat muscle strain.

Manager John Gibbons said Monday he hopes Sanchez will be back after a missing second straight start. Scott Copeland, who filled in for Sanchez on Wednesday, has been recalled and will start Tuesday night against the New York Mets.

Sanchez was sent to the Blue Jays' facility in Dunedin, Florida. He will have an MRI. The move is retroactive to June 6 so Sanchez is eligible to return on June 21, the next time his spot in the rotation comes up.

Sanchez will be 23 on July 1. He is 5-4 with a 3.55 ERA in his first 11 big league starts. He made his debut last season.
