Kansas City Royals Player News: Pitchers

News: Kennedy earned a one-out save in Wednesday's 7-5 victory over the White Sox.
Impact: Kennedy was called upon to record the final out in the ninth inning after Willy Peralta gave up a three-run home run to AJ Reed. The right-hander did so in six pitches after forcing Yolmer Sanchez to line out. Kennedy has been on fire since taking over closing duties for the Royals, and has already recorded four saves post All-Star break. The 34-year-old owns a 3.29 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 46:9 K:BB across 38 appearances.
News: Duffy (4-5) picked up the win Wednesday after holding the White Sox to two runs on six hits while striking out five over six innings.
Impact: Duffy delivered a quality start and did not issue any walks for the first time this season. The 30-year-old held the White Sox hitless until the third inning and scoreless until the sixth, when he surrendered a two-run homer to Ryan Goins. Duffy had exited his last start against Detroit after getting hit in the hand with a ball, but clearly the injury was nothing serious. After his solid outing, the southpaw owns a 4.52 ERA, 1.39 ERA and 69:31 K:BB heading into his next start against the Braves.
News: Newberry was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
Impact: Newberry was sent back to the minors to free up a roster spot for Mike Montgomery, who was activated Wednesday after being acquired from the Cubs earlier in the week. The right-hander compiled a 1.59 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 5:4 K:BB across 5.2 innings (five appearances) during his most recent stint with the Royals.
News: Sparkman (3-5) threw a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts to earn a victory against the White Sox on Tuesday.
Impact: This kind of came out of no where -- Sparkman had allowed 12 runs in his last nine innings coming into this outing. Sparkman couldn't have had a better bounce-back performance, as he ended his two-game losing streak. Sparkman saw his ERA drop more than 70 points after this appearance. He has three wins with a 4.54 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 73.1 innings across 18 appearances, including 10 starts. He will look to keep it going at the Indians on Sunday.
