Heading to bench Wednesday Melendez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact Melendez had started in four of the team's previous five matchups with right-handed pitchers, but the Mets won't have room for him in the lineup Wednesday while Francisco Alvarez gets a break from catching but stays in the starting nine at designated hitter. Since the start of May, Melendez has posted a weak .533 OPS, so he likely still has more work to do in order to strengthen his grasp on a regular lineup sot.

Swats fourth homer Melendez went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Padres.
Impact Getting the start in left field while Juan Soto got a partial rest as the DH, Melendez took Yuki Matsui deep in the sixth inning -- his fourth homer of the year, and first against a left-handed pitcher. The 27-year-old also made a spectacular diving catch in the second inning to rob Miguel Andujar of extra bases. Melendez hasn't had a multi-hit performance since May 6, batting just .098 (5-for-51) over his last 25 games with a 30.6 percent strikeout rate, but he remains in a battle for playing time with Mark Vientos, who isn't doing much better at the plate over the last few weeks.

Mets rookie Carson Benge goes 5 for 5 with homer and RBI triple in 7-3 win over scuffling Padres

Carson Benge went 5 for 5 with a home run and an RBI triple, leading the New York Mets to a 7-3 victory over the struggling San Diego Padres

Falling out of favor Melendez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.
Impact Melendez will be on the bench for the fourth straight game and appears to have lost hold of his strong-side platoon role at designated hitter. Jared Young will be rewarded with a third consecutive start at DH after going 2-for-6 with a solo home run, a walk and two additional runs over the first two contests of the series.

Crushes game-winning HR Melendez went 1-for-1 with a home run and three RBI during the Mets' 9-7 extra-inning win over the Marlins on Friday.
Impact Melendez didn't start in Friday's game but came in to pinch-hit in the seventh inning, when his fly ball to left field was enough to bring Bo Bichette home. Melendez made a bigger impact in the 10th frame, when he took Pete Fairbanks deep for a two-run, walkoff home run. Melendez entered the game having gone 2-for-35 with 16 strikeouts over his last 18 outings, but perhaps his big night against Miami was enough to spark a turnaround at the plate.

Out of Friday's lineup Melendez is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Marlins.
Impact After getting off to a hot start for the Mets, Melendez is just 2-for-35 across his last 18 games. The Mets will go with Jared Young at designated hitter against Marlins right-hander Max Meyer.
MAY 29 • ROTOWIRE
On bench against lefty Melendez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact The left-handed-hitting Melendez will take a seat for the second time in the series while the Reds send another lefty (Andrew Abbott) to the bump. Eric Wagaman will step in for Melendez as the Mets' designated hitter and will bat seventh.

Idle against right-hander Melendez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.
Impact Since the calendar flipped to May, Melendez's performance has taken a dramatic step backward. Over 15 games on the month, Melendez has slashed just .138/.286/.207 with one extra-base hit and a 34.3 percent strikeout rate. Now on the bench Monday against a righty starter (Jake Irvin) after most of his previous absences had come versus left-handed pitching, Melendez could be losing hold of his strong-side platoon role.

Taking seat in series finale Melendez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Impact With lefty Eduardo Rodriguez on the hill for Arizona, the left-handed-hitting Melendez will retreat to the bench for the series finale in Phoenix. Austin Slater will enter the lineup as a replacement for Melendez, who has cooled off to begin May by going 3-for-18 with two walks and seven strikeouts.
