INJURIES

Eyeing early Sept. for rehab stint Bubic (shoulder/elbow) is hoping to begin a minor-league rehab assignment around early September, MLB.com reports.
Impact Bubic resumed a throwing progression while still with Kansas City in late July and was traded to the Dodgers on Aug. 3. The veteran hurler is continuing to try to work his way back from left shoulder discomfort and left elbow soreness, which has kept him on the IL since mid-May. Given the length of his absence, Bubic will almost certainly need to make several rehab appearances when he's ready to get into game action, which means that activation from the IL is unlikely to happen before mid-September. With that in mind, and given the Dodgers' deep rotation when healthy, the likeliest scenario for the left-hander to contribute to his new team this season is as a long-relief and/or emergency-starter option down the stretch and into the playoffs.

AUGUST 3 • DODGERSWAY.COM
Donning Dodger Blue The Dodgers acquired Bubic (elbow/shoulder) from the Royals on Monday in exchange for right-hander Carlos Duran, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Though the Dodgers don't appear to have any room in the rotation after acquiring Tarik Skubal over the weekend and with Blake Snell (elbow) and Tyler Glasnow (back) nearing returns from the injured list, the organization won't pass up on the chance to add another talented arm to its deep stable of hurlers. Like Snell and Glasnow, Bubic is currently rehabbing an injury, though he doesn't appear to be nearly as close to a return. According to MLB.com, Bubic increased his throwing distance off flat ground to 80 feet last week, so he'll have several hurdles to clear in the rehab process in order to get fully stretched out. After posting a 2.55 ERA in 20 starts for the Royals during an injury-shortened 2025 campaign, Bubic submitted a 4.11 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB across 50.1 innings in nine starts this season before hitting the shelf May 18 due to left shoulder discomfort and left elbow soreness.

Starts throwing progression Bubic (elbow/shoulder) began a throwing progression Friday with 30 throws from 45 to 60 feet, MLB.com reports.
Impact Bubic had been shut down from throwing since the beginning of July due to shoulder soreness, an injury he sustained while rehabbing from left elbow soreness that landed him on the injured list May 18. Resuming a throwing program is a positive sign, though the southpaw still has many hurdles to clear before returning to game action at the big-league level. Before hitting the shelf, Bubic posted a 3-2 record with a 4.11 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB across 50.1 innings (nine starts).

Could resume throwing soon Bubic (elbow/shoulder) could begin a new throwing program next week, per MLB.com.
Impact Bubic has been shelved since mid-May due to left elbow soreness before developing left shoulder discomfort during a rehab outing. The southpaw received a cortisone injection July 2 and has been shut down since, though he could be ready to resume throwing in the near future. Beginning a throwing program would mark a step in the right direction, though Bubic is likely to need considerable time to progress through his rehab before embarking on a rehab assignment and ultimately returning to the active roster. Prior to his lengthy stint on the injured list, the hurler posted a 3-2 record with a 4.11 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB across 50.1 innings (nine starts).

Receives cortisone injection Bubic (elbow/shoulder) received a cortisone injection Thursday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bubic will be shut down for 7-10 days before the team will reevaluate where he's at. The southpaw has been sidelined since mid-May while nursing left elbow and shoulder discomfort, and he was shifted to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

JULY 2 • MLB.COM
Shifts to 60-day IL The Royals transferred Bubic (elbow/shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.
Impact Earlier Wednesday, Royals senior vice president Scott Sharp revealed that Bubic hit another snag in his recovery from left elbow soreness and left shoulder discomfort, though the team won't have more specifics available until the southpaw is re-evaluated in Kansas City. Since Bubic's initial placement on the IL was retroactive to May 15 and he wasn't on track to rejoin Kansas City rotation until after the All-Star break anyway, his move to the 60-day IL won't have any bearing on his timeline for a return. The transaction will temporarily bump Bubic from the 40-man roster in order to open up a spot for right-hander Jose Cuas, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Omaha.

Impact Bubic initially went on the 15-day injured list in mid-May due to left elbow soreness and encountered a setback in mid-June when he experienced left shoulder discomfort. He had an MRI after that first setback which cleared him of structural damage in his elbow and shoulder. It's unclear at this point whether this setback is related to the southpaw's elbow or shoulder (or both), but more information on Bubic should be available later this week. The southpaw went two scoreless frames in his last rehab start this past weekend.
JULY 1 • ROTOWIRE
Completes two innings in rehab Bubic (elbow) allowed a hit and no walks with no strikeouts across two scoreless innings in Saturday's rehab start with Triple-A Omaha.
Impact Bubic resumed his rehab assignment Wednesday by tossing a perfect inning, and Saturday marked another positive step as the left-hander completed two scoreless innings on 22 pitches (15 strikes). He has been sidelined since May 18 due to left elbow soreness, though his initial rehab assignment was halted after one outing June 9 because of left shoulder discomfort. The 28-year-old will likely need at least one more rehab start to continue building up his workload, but a return to Kansas City before the All-Star break remains possible, if not shortly thereafter. The Royals will evaluate how Bubic feels Sunday before determining his next steps, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
JUNE 28 • ROTOWIRE
Logs scoreless frame in rehab start Bubic (elbow) threw a perfect inning while striking out one in Wednesday's rehab start with Triple-A Omaha.
Impact Bubic was able to resume his rehab assignment for left elbow soreness Wednesday after his first assignment was halted following one outing June 9 due to shoulder discomfort. The southpaw logged a clean inning, throwing six of eight pitches for strikes before departing. Per MLB.com, Bubic is scheduled to throw two innings with Triple-A Omaha on Saturday as he continues to build up. If the 28-year-old continues to progress without any further setbacks, a return to the Kansas City rotation before the All-Star break is possible.

JUNE 25 • MLB.COM
Resuming rehab assignment Wednesday Bubic (elbow) is slated to make a rehab start Wednesday with Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Impact After landing on the injured list May 18 due to left elbow soreness, Bubic was cleared to kick off a rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha on June 9. The left-hander was lit up for six runs (five earned) while recording just four outs in his lone outing with Omaha before being pulled off the assignment after experiencing shoulder discomfort. An MRI cleared Bubic of any major concerns with the shoulder, so he didn't have to pause his throwing program for more than a few days. Bubic made it through a two-inning live bullpen session over the weekend without issue and will now resume the rehab assignment, this time linking up with the Royals' Double-A affiliate. He'll likely need at least one more start in the minors beyond Wednesday to get fully ramped up, but Bubic would appear to have a shot at rejoining the Kansas City rotation before the All-Star break.
JUNE 24 • ROTOWIRE
Logs bullpen session Sunday Bubic (elbow/shoulder) threw a two-up bullpen Sunday, per MLB.com.
Impact Working back from left elbow soreness, Bubic suffered a setback after experiencing shoulder discomfort following a rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on June 9. The southpaw underwent an MRI that revealed no structural damage to either his elbow or shoulder, an encouraging development that has allowed him to resume building back up. Having now completed a bullpen session, the 28-year-old could restart his rehab assignment soon, provided he doesn't experience any renewed discomfort. Before being shelved, Bubic posted a 3-2 record with a 4.11 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 51:26 K:BB across 50.1 innings (nine starts).
