Ravens' Jimmy Smith: Nothing to say about Dean Pees' critique of his play

Published Nov. 12, 2015 9:59 p.m. ET

Awkwardness filled the air when reporters asked Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith if he had a response to the recent criticism coming from his defensive coordinator.

Smith was at a loss for words when asked if he agreed with Dean Pees' evaluation that Smith was playing tentative.

"Honestly, I don’t even want to … I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know,” Smith said via Russell Street Report

When asked if he needed to play more aggressively as a follow up, Smith responded: "I feel like I’ve just got to keep getting better, keep playing my game." Then he awkwardly walked away from the podium.

While Smith may not want to talk about it, Pees was willing to call it as he sees it prior to the team's bye last week. Smith is the 92nd-ranked corner in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.

“Tentative,” Pees said of Smith, who is coming off last year's season-ending foot injury. "I think he has been tentative and not really letting it go. Whether that’s the injury, whether it’s not, I don’t [know]. Only he can tell you that. But I haven’t seen him quite be the…productive player."
