Domingo Santana felt 'fantastic' after big game on Tuesday

Domingo Santana really wanted to make his latest call-up to the Houston Astros count.

That's why he felt so relieved after collecting his first Major League hit on Tuesday, a run-scoring single that helped the Astros vanquish the Colorado Rockies 8-5.

Afterwards, as Santana told MLB.com's Chandler Rome, he felt pretty great: "It felt really fantastic. Felt like a whole burden got off my shoulders."

Santana was promoted earlier in the week when Colby Rasmus was placed on the bereavement list. He was up briefly with the Astros in 2014, but didn't collect a base hit in 17 at-bats. Despite the tough start, he told Rome, his confidence never wavered: "From the beginning, I was confident. But what happens happens. I'm just trying to take advantage of every little opportunity I get and go out there and just play."

He definitely took advantage of his opportunity on Tuesday, and a few more games like that might earn him a longer stint with the big-league club in 2015.
