Poll: About 50% of Americans believe sports, presidential election can be rigged

About half of Americans recently surveyed by the Seton Hall Sports Poll believe that sports contests and the presidential election can be “rigged by outside influences.”

The poll was conducted with the participation of 841 adults and shows that 52% believe that an NFL game “could be rigged by outside influences.” 42% of people polled said “no.” The NBA provided similar results with 51% saying yes and 42% saying no.

College sports were no exception as 47% of people believe a college football game can be rigged. In college basketball 46% of people believe it can be rigged.

The World Series between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians was also questioned and a majority believe it can not be rigged as 51% of people said no.

The 2016 Presidential Election will take place next week and the people surveyed were asked whether it could also be rigged. 47% of Americans believe the election can be rigged while 46% said no.

The poll was conducted from Oct. 24 to 26.
