Chargers' Keenan Allen hasn't proved he's back to full power

Keenan Allen's rollercoaster ride of a receiving season is back on the upswing.

It's fair to wonder if another precipitous drop is right around the corner, though.

Allen has been both dominating and invisible through three weeks of play. He was the former on Sunday; the Cal product turned in a 12-catch, 133-yard, two-touchdown afternoon against the Vikings.

Chargers fans saw that player line up for their team in Week 1 (15 catches, 166 yards). They also saw that same player disappear the following Sunday (four catches, 16 yards) in Week 2.

Allen was torching the Vikings seven days after that. And quarterback Philip Rivers thinks he receiver deserves praise, not scorn, for rebounding so fast.

“He had a bounce-back week and made some big plays,” Rivers told U-T San Diego's Michael Gehlken. “Got us a touchdown to get us to 10-7 before the half and then he just kept fighting the whole day."

Whether or not he can keep fighting every week is yet to be seen. Allen is a difference maker, but only in odd-numbered weeks so far.
