Philbin cancels walkthrough after rookie DT cleanly catches punt

Published Aug. 11, 2015 2:25 p.m. ET

The Miami Dolphins aren't necessarily looking for an upgrade at punt returner, but rookie defensive tackle Jordan Phillips appears to be up for the job if called upon.

After practice on Tuesday, head coach Joe Philbin bet that Phillips couldn't cleanly catch a punt. If he did, Philbin would cancel the afternoon walkthrough and not force the team to run.

That's a lot of pressure for a 6-foot-5, 329-pound rookie with the entire team watching him.

Fortunately for the entire Dolphins team, Phillips did field the punt cleanly and Philbin cancelled the afternoon walkthrough.

It was an uplifting way to end a practice that featured a fight between cornerback Jamar Taylor and wide receiver Rishard Matthews. The two threw several punches, but it was broken up by veteran safety Louis Delmas before the fight could get out of hand.
