Upton back in the lineup for Padres

Published Apr. 21, 2015 2:58 a.m. ET

After missing a game due to a sore quad, Justin Upton singled in his first at-bat for the Padres in Monday's game against the Rockies. Dennis Lin of U-T San Diego shared Upton's thoughts on his return:

"It's still kind of a little bit sore, but I went out and tested it and it feels a little better," Upton said before Monday's game against the Rockies. "...The team's playing well. You want to be a part of it. You want to get on the field with those guys."

Manager Bud Black also commented on his return:

"We feel pretty good about where he is," Black said. "We think physically he's going to be fine. ... Justin's been around this game long enough to know when he's good to go and feel confident about his ability to play and help us win. Any time you're talking about legs for position players, you worry a little bit, but we feel pretty good about him."
