Redskins' Trent Williams hopes to play through neck and spine pain
Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams is dealing with pain in his neck and spine, but you wouldn't know about it unless you asked him.
At some point during the Redskins' Week 5 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, he injured his neck -- he did not leave the game. The discomfort hasn't gone away, and Williams has been limited to individual drills in practice this week. Based on his track record dealing with pain, it seems likely that Williams will do everything he can to play in Week 6.
“Got to wait and see what coach says, see what the doctor says," Williams told reporters, per The Washington Post. Obviously if there is any chance I’m gonna play, I’m gonna play.”
Head coach Jay Gruden also talked about Williams' injury status and the plan going forward with him. When discussing his status, he mentioned another injury that Williams is currently dealing with.
“He’s still participating from a mental standpoint; just physically, we want to make sure he’s right,” Gruden said. “We don’t want to have an unnecessary guy hit him in the neck area or have somebody trip and have him fall and injure himself. He’s such a big part of our offense that we want to make sure that he is right. He’ll let us know when he is ready. I think he’ll be okay.”
