Gamblers bet record amount of money on Super Bowl 50 in Nevada
Super Bowl 50 brought home the money for Nevada sportsbooks.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board announced Monday afternoon that bettors wagered $132.5 million on the Denver Broncos' 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers. That figure topped the previous record of $119.4 million from two seasons ago, when the Seattle Seahawks beat the Broncos.
The house won $13.31 million, according to the report.
American Gambling Association CEO Geoff Freeman said in a statement on Monday that the historical amount of money adds to the fact of how widespread betting has become.
"The record amount wagered -- legally and illegally -- on Super Bowl 50 offers further proof that sports betting has become America's new national pastime," Freeman said. "Fans want to be invested in their favorite sports and, one way or another, will find a way to do so. AGA will continue to build support for a modern and rational approach that protects these fans and the integrity of the sports we enjoy."
"Great crowds, great business and a really good day for Las Vegas," Station Casinos' vice president of race and sports Art Manteris said Sunday night.
Sports books profited for the 25th time in the past 27 years, and Super Bowl 50 was the third largest win on Super Sunday for the casinos.
