Seahawks' Bennett to appeal latest fine: 'It never makes any sense'
Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett plans to appeal a $20,000 fine incurred from the NFL for a roughing-the-passer penalty in the Week 8 game at Dallas.
Bennett, not surprisingly, disagreed with the league's assessment that he delivered a low hit to Cowboys quarterback Matt Cassel. He also took umbrage at the fact that Dallas' Jeff Heath avoided league discipline for his hit that ended the season of Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette - a play on which Heat was penalized.
“They fine me for falling into a guy’s leg and he (Heath) was looking and intentionally looking for a guy and calling him out and going and hit that guy,” Bennett said. “I didn’t look at his knee and just run and hit him in the knee.”
Bennett has been running up quite a tab with the league. He has been fined a total of $57,863 for three hits on quarterbacks. although Bennett said a preseason fine levied against him for a preseason hit on Kansas City's Alex Smith was reversed.
“I think a lot of the hits I don’t understand the NFL when it comes to fines,” Bennett said. "It never makes any sense. It’s all about the position that the players play that decides what’s fineable and what’s not fineable.”
