Keenan Allen had a day for the Chargers history books
Keenan Allen was anything but average to start his third NFL season.
The receiver tied Kellen Winslow for the most in-game catches in team history (15). He added 166 receiving yards in for good measure.
That's the highest opening day total since they called the "AFC" the "AFL." It's safe to say that Allen is back after a disappointing 2014.
“I guess I’m back, but I don’t think I ever left,” he told Ricky Henne of Chargers.com. “I’m just feeling good, feeling comfortable."
Philip Rivers looked comfortable throwing Allen's way all afternoon. Only two passes thrown his way hit the turf against the Detroit Lions.
Allen claims he never left, but he can't say the same for his bad habits. The Cal product seemed good for one mental mistake a game last season; he'd line up in the incorrect spot, run the wrong route, or let the ball fly through his hands.
He was untouchable on Sunday. And even though his quarterback is a fan of spreading the wealth, he said he had no choice but to look for No. 13.
“You keep throwing it to him when you know he’s rolling, separating and continues to win,” Philip Rivers said. "I don’t expect him to get 15 every week, but it was a heck of a start.”
