WASHINGTON (AP) The Washington Redskins have signed tight end Jordan Reed to a multiyear contract extension.

Reed made 87 catches for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns as Washington's leading receiver during his breakout season. The 25-year-old had only three touchdown catches in his previous two NFL seasons.

His 952 yards receiving are the most by a tight end in franchise history.

The Redskins added depth at the position in the offseason by signing Maryland product Vernon Davis from the Denver Broncos. They also re-signed Logan Paulsen and expect Niles Paul to return from a gruesome ankle injury that cost him the entire season.

But Reed clearly is the top tight-end target for Washington and quarterback Kirk Cousins in 2016.
