Just when the New England Patriots would like to get healthy and hit their stride, the Rob Gronkowski news broke this week. Now they’re without their biggest offensive weapon for the rest of the season. Obviously Bill Belichick and crew still have the chops to get it done down the stretch. However, we’ll see how different they look in NFL Week 13 when they welcome the Los Angeles Rams to Gillette Stadium.

Tom Brady is still a thing that exists, which gives the Patriots the advantage most time out. And with Dion Lewis in the backfield again, they have weapons to work with. In the wake of the Gronk injury, though, the biggest key could wind up being the defense. They’ve been getting by all season. Now with the offense less potent, they need to be more consistent in showing up when the ball isn’t in their possession.

In fairness, the move to Jared Goff has helped the Rams offense. At the same time, though, there’s just not enough talent at the skill positions or on the line to make too much of a difference. Aaron Donald and the defense remain a fierce group, but the Rams are in a bad spot in any matchup right now.

Even without their star tight end, the advantage on Sunday clearly still belongs to the Pats in this matchup. That said, a huge loss like that could potentially throw off their momentum. What’s more, this is a New England team full of flaws. It’d be a massive upset, but the Rams could possibly pull it off.
