Report: Saints to bring back safety Kenny Phillips

Published Sep. 14, 2015 1:48 p.m. ET

The New Orleans Saints chose to part ways with safety Kenny Phillips this preseason, ending his potential comeback short of the 2015 NFL season. Then, the Saints decided to backtrack just a bit.

The team lost Rafael Bush to a chest injury Sunday, while also dealing with S Jairus Byrd still being sidelined with a knee injury. In turn, the team has decided to bring back Phillips, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports.

Best of all, Mike Triplett of ESPN explained that not only will Phillips be back on the roster, but he also has a great shot to start in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This would be his first regular season action in two years, giving Phillips the chance to prove he can still play at a high level.
