T.Y. Hilton: If the Colts want to pay me, they'll pay me

Published Jun. 15, 2015 12:11 p.m. ET

The Indianapolis Colts would like to keep star receiver T.Y. Hilton in town long-term. Owner Jim Irsay and general manager Ryan Grigson emphasized that point during the team's minicamp last week. Agreeing on deal that makes sense for both parties, however, may be easier said than done.

Hilton, who is entering the last year of his rookie contract, said he's taking a pragmatic approach to his future in Indianapolis.

"If they want to pay me, they'll pay me," Hilton said, according to the Indianapolis Star. "It takes both sides to come to an agreement. I leave that up to my agent and just go out there and have fun."

The Pro Bowl wide receiver, who caught 82 passes for 1,345 yards and seven touchdowns last season, is one of several key Colts in line for new contracts. Another of those players facing free agency after the season, tight end Dwyane Allen, said it's important to Hilton's teammates to see the Colts show they are committed to the receiver.

"It means a lot," Allen said. "We love to say whenever we win we all eat. T.Y. is a guy who provides a lot of offense so that we can do a lot of winning. It'll be good to see him get rewarded for his efforts."
