Revis: I'm better than the first time I was in New York

Give a guy a Super Bowl ring and all of the sudden he’s the best thing since sliced bread.

That’s how Darrelle Revis seems to feel, anyways. And, honestly, he may be right.

The future Hall-of-Famer is now back for a second tour in New York, and he thinks he’s better than ever.

“You know what? I think I’m better than I was before, when I played earlier in my career,” Revis said Tuesday at the Jets’ voluntary veteran minicamp, per NJ.com.

“I think I’m way more intelligent in the position. I had a great learning experience last year with Bill (Belichick). He helped me in a lot of ways. I’ve seen the game a different way. But at the same time I think just the growth, of me growing as a player, and growing as a man has helped me tremendously. Now I’m a different type of player — a better player — than I was when I was younger.”

For as much as we all love Revis — and we love him a lot — that’s a little hard to imagine. I mean, simply by the fact that he’s 29 years old and just a few years removed from an ACL injury, Revis looks to be on the downside of his career, even if that downside is still better than 99 percent of other cornerbacks.

During that first stint with the Jets, Revis was playing at an unprecedented level. He wasn’t just the best cornerback in football; he was the best cornerback ever.

While he was good in New England last year, he probably wasn’t the best cornerback in the league.

Nonetheless, the Jets and their fans will be able to count on Revis. He’s still a freak of nature.
