Cory Harkey figures to play a key role in Rams' offense

When the St. Louis Rams signed Cory Harkey to his one-year restricted free-agent tender offer in March, not much was made of the signing. It was a move that went mostly unnoticed around the NFL, but the Rams are sure glad Harkey is back with them for at least another year.

Harkey plays multiple roles in the Rams offense that includes being a leader on special teams, a fullback and a tight end. Harkey is the tough guy that every team in the league could use.

“It’s great to have ‘Hark’ back," head coach Jeff Fisher said, via ESPN.com. "He really took on a leadership role in the special-teams room and really all over, for that matter. It’s just great to have him back. He’s one of those guys you trust. He’s out every day. He’s tough. He makes plays. It’s good that we got at least another year.”

Harkey is known mostly for his blocking on offense and although the Rams did not run the ball too much last season, that is likely to change this year after drafting Todd Gurley in the first-round with the 10th overall pick. Harkey figures to be Gurley's lead blocker and will play a crucial role in the offense this year if the Rams hope to be successful.
