Chip Kelly in 2011: Tim Tebow is not our team's QB type

Back in 2011, current Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was at Oregon. Quarterback Tim Tebow, the newest member of the Eagles, was quarterbacking for the Denver Broncos that same year.

Despite being a mediocre passer, Tebow helped carry the Broncos all the way to the AFC Divisional Round in 2011. At the time, Kelly shared the following statement during a spring coaches clinic, per Grantland’s Chris B. Brown.

"I look for a quarterback who can run and not a running back who can throw," he said. "I want a quarterback who can beat you with his arm. We are not a Tim Tebow type of quarterback team. I am not going to run my quarterback 20 times on power runs."

Philadelphia officially signed Tebow on Monday, but what is different now? Besides the fact that Kelly is building the best-looking quarterback rosterin the NFL, we are not exactly sure.

Perhaps Kelly just feels secure with a plethora of quarterbacks from which to choose a starter.

Also, remember that in 2011 at Oregon, Kelly coached top 2015 draft prospect Marcus Mariota. Do we smell a fifth quarterback coming into Kelly’s fast and furious four?
