Browns' Crowell and West both planning on 1,000 yards

While some running back competitions can become contentious, the battle for playing time between second-year backs Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West will make both players better, according to Crowell.

In fact, Crowell told the team's official website that both ball carriers have their eyes on the 1,000-yard mark, with 10 touchdowns apiece also part of the plan.

"That’s the plan," Crowell said. "Both of us want the ball and I think both of us have what it takes to play in the NFL for a long time. I’m happy he’s with me. We plan on doing some big things."

West led the team in rushing last season with 673 yards, while Crowell finished the year with 607 to go with eight touchdowns, which was just one shy of Jim Brown's rookie franchise record.

Both runners began the 2014 season behind Ben Tate on the depth chart, but both quickly proved their worth. Tate lasted just eight games before being jettisoned from Cleveland when it was apparent that there wasn't enough playing time for him.

The duo has been working out together this offseason knowing that they will likely split carries heading into the season. With no clear answer at quarterback and a suspect passing game to begin with, both runners should expect a heavy workload in 2015.
