Arizona Cardinals: Another moving day

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Arizona Cardinals continued their roster adjustments on Wednesday

Another day, another few roster moves. The Cardinals dealt with cuts, additions, and more injury a day after making several other moves.

The Cardinals placed linebacker Alani Fua on the injured reserve.  He has an injured knee that has ended his season.  They just placed tight end Troy Niklas on injured reserve Tuesday with an injured wrist.

Amongst the other moves on Wednesday by the Cardinals was replacing punter Drew Butler with Ryan Quigley.  Butler has been hampered by a sprained Achilles.  For now he remains on the roster but I have a hard time believing they are going to keep two punters on the roster for very long.

Quigley last punted in the regular season with the New York Jets from 2013 until 2015.  He was briefly with the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars since then.  He was cut by the Jaguars during the last week of training camp this season.

The Cardinals also added Joplo Bartu.  Bartu has played for the Atlanta Falcons and most recently with the Jaguars as well.  He has 4.5 career sacks.

Also made official on Wednesday was the addition of long snapper Aaron Brewer.  His signing was reported first on Tuesday evening, hours after waiving Kameron Canaday.

Former long snapper Mike Leach told arizonasports.com that he considered a return to the Cardinals, however after practicing in his backyard on Sunday evening, he knew he was done for good.  His body just couldn’t handle the day to day stress.

For now we wait to hear on any other moves.  It will be interesting to see if the Cardinals hang on to Butler or make another move with him.  If they do keep both this week, Butler almost certain will be inactive.  Quigley has experience so we’ll see what he has to offer.
