Three hits in Sunday's win Allen went 3-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Mets.

Impact There's not often room in the lineup for Allen when the Astros' infield is healthy, but he got a start at third base while Isaac Paredes served as the designated hitter Sunday. Allen has gone 9-for-29 (.310) over 18 contests in August, but it would take an injury for his playing time to meaningfully increase. He's hitting .276 with a .683 OPS, two home runs, two stolen bases, 13 RBI, 21 runs scored and five doubles over 143 plate appearances this season.

Back in reserve role Allen is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.

Impact Though he received the start at shortstop in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Orioles, Allen will be back on the bench for the series opener against the Marlins while Jeremy Pena (hamstring) checks back into the starting nine. Allen had a brief run as the Astros' primary shortstop when he returned from the injured list June 29, but Pena has taken back control of the position since being reinstated July 10 following an IL stint of his own.

Drives in three runs Tuesday Allen went 1-for-3 with a steal and three RBI during the Astros' 6-3 win over the Nationals on Tuesday.

Impact Allen was responsible for half of the Astros' runs Tuesday, which came on a sacrifice fly in the second inning and a two-run single in the fourth. It was a season high in RBI for Allen, who has seen a regular run at shortstop since returning from the 10-day injured list in late June. However, his playing time will take a significant hit once Jeremy Pena (calf) returns from the IL, with the latter having embarked on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday.

Handling regular role at shortstop Allen will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Rays.

Impact Since coming off the 10-day injured list Monday, Allen has drawn starts in five of Houston's ensuing six games while going 3-for-14 with a double, two walks, two runs and one RBI. Per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, Astros manager Joe Espada said prior to Sunday's game that he anticipates top shortstop Jeremy Pena (calf) returning from the IL as soon as next Friday, so Allen's run as a regular in the lineup will soon come to an end.

Returns from IL The Astros activated Allen (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Impact Allen has missed the past three weeks with a left hamstring strain, but he's been cleared to rejoin the active roster after playing two rehab games with Triple-A Sugar Land. The 27-year-old will operate as a reserve infielder.
