INJURIES

Perfect outing in season debut Rodriguez struck out five over 3.1 perfect innings during Friday's 2-1 loss against Atlanta.
Impact Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Durham before Friday's game and was called on to replace Tyler Glasnow (cramps) in the sixth. The 25-year-old made the most of his opportunity by tossing 3.1 perfect innings against one of the best offenses in baseball. It's unclear if Rodriguez will get a shot in Tampa Bay's rotation following the All-Star break, or if he'll continue to be used as a long-relief option. Either way, he figures to get a few more looks after his stellar season debut.

Selected from Durham The Rays selected Rodriguez from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.
Impact Rodriguez holds a 3.40 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through 45 innings across 10 starts in Triple-A. He recently returned from the injured list with right elbow tightness, and now he'll head to the majors to fill in as the fifth man in the Rays' rotation. Rodriguez has a bit of major-league experience already -- he pitched 29.2 innings with Detroit last season and put up a 10.62 ERA and 1.92 WHIP alongside a 25:15 K:BB. Ryan Thompson was optioned to Durham to clear a spot on the active roster, and Jose Lopez was DFA'd to clear a 40-man spot.

Impact Rodriguez missed approximately five weeks due to right elbow tightness before he was cleared to rejoin the Durham rotation after making just one rehab start in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. The 25-year-old was on a limited workload Sunday, but he was generally efficient during his time on the mound, spotting 38 of his 55 pitches for strikes. Rodriguez doesn't have a spot on the Rays' 40-man roster, but he could nonetheless emerge as a starting option for the big club if he can stay healthy and continue to turn in quality results with Durham.
JULY 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
To IL with elbow tightness Rodriguez was placed on the 7-day injured list with Triple-A Durham due to elbow tightness, Bulls play-by-play voice Patrick Kinas reports.
Impact The 25-year-old righty logged a 3.43 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 42 innings across nine starts for Durham before exiting his last start after 58 pitches with the injury. He is not on the 40-man roster, but had seemingly pitched himself into position for a return trip to the majors before this setback. Rodriguez should be considered out indefinitely.

Things clicking in new org Rodriguez has a 1.57 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 23 innings through four starts for Triple-A Durham
Impact Rodriguez was once a top prospect with the Tigers, but he was designated for assignment this past offseason and the Rays scooped him up on a minor-league deal. The Rays seem to be working their magic with Rodriguez and he could be an option in the big-league rotation later this season.

Gets NRI deal from Tampa Bay Rodriguez agreed Wednesday with the Rays on a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact Rodriguez, 24, struggled to a 10.62 ERA and 25:15 K:BB while allowing 12 home runs in a 29.2-inning sample with Detroit in 2022. The right-hander will try and win a spot on the Rays' staff in the Grapefruit League, but he faces an uphill battle to break camp with the big club given Tampa Bay's ample pitching depth.

Removed from 40-man roster Rodriguez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
Impact Rodriguez appeared in seven games (five starts) for the Tigers in 2022 but won't stay on the 40-man roster through the offseason. He had a 10.62 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 25:15 K:BB across 29.2 innings.

Heads to minors after rough start The Tigers returned Rodriguez to Triple-A Toledo after he served as Detroit's 29th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with Seattle.
Impact Rodriguez dropped to 0-4 after he started in the Tigers' 9-6 loss in Game 2, covering 3.2 innings and striking out five while allowing six earned runs on seven hits and two walks. The 24-year-old right-hander was routinely roughed up while making seven appearances (five starts) for Detroit during his rookie campaign, submitting a 10.62 ERA and 1.92 WHIP in 29.2 innings overall.

Hammered by Mariners Rodriguez (0-4) took the 9-6 loss in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against Seattle, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Impact Rodriguez was called up as the 29th man and followed opener Will Vest, recording the final out of the first inning with the bases loaded. His appearance progressively declined thereafter with a clean second, one-run third, two-run fourth and three-run fifth as the 24-year-old has now lost each of his last four starts -- spanning June 3 to Tuesday. He concludes the season with a 10.62 ERA and 1.92 WHIP with 25 strikeouts in 29.2 innings across seven appearances and five starts.
OCTOBER 5, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Up for doubleheader Rodriguez is serving as the 29th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mariners. He is expected to pitch in Game 2.
Impact It remains unclear whether Rodriguez will work as a traditional starter or if he will follow an opener. He has a 10.04 ERA in 26 MLB innings and a 4.98 ERA in 99.1 innings at Triple-A. Rodriguez has not logged more than four innings in an appearance since Aug. 31 at Triple-A, so following an opener would greatly increase his chances of being the pitcher of record after five innings.
OCTOBER 4, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Set to join Detroit for twin bill The Tigers plan to recall Rodriguez from Triple-A Toledo to have him pitch in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Mariners, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Impact Rodriguez is expected to be designated as the 29th man for the twin bill, but the Tigers haven't indicated whether he'll be in line for a traditional start in the nightcap or if he'll be deployed as a bulk reliever. Either way, Rodriguez profiles as the Tigers pitcher most likely to factor into any decision. Over 26 innings at the big-league level in 2022, Rodriguez has generated a 10.04 ERA and 1.85 WHIP.

Optioned to Toledo Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
Impact Rodriguez was promoted Thursday to make his first start in the majors since June 11. He only surrendered three runs but allowed 11 baserunners across 5.2 innings to take the loss against the Guardians. Rodriguez will be a candidate to earn starts in the second half of the campaign, though both Rony Garcia (shoulder) and Matt Manning (shoulder) are in the midst of rehab assignments.

Allows 11 baserunners in return Rodriguez (0-3) took the loss Thursday in Cleveland, allowing three runs on seven hits, four walks and a hit batsman while striking out four in 5.2 innings.
Impact In his first appearance in the majors since June 11, Rodriguez pitched around trouble and limited the Guardians to three runs. Eight of the 11 baserunners he allowed reached in the second or third inning but he managed to leave five of them stranded. While it wasn't a stellar outing, it was an improvement over the 11.51 ERA he posted in his first 20.2 innings in the majors. It remains to be seen whether or not he'll return to Triple-A Toledo or continue with Detroit after the All-Star break.

Confirmed to start Thursday Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Rodriguez will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Thursday's game against the Guardians in Cleveland, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press...
Impact Rodriguez will be rejoining the big club for the first time since mid-June, when he was optioned to Toledo after turning in an 11.21 WHIP and 1.81 WHIP over a four-game run in the Tigers rotation. The 24-year-old right-hander has found more success in his five outings since returning to Triple-A (3.33 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB in 24.1 innings), but he'll still make for a high-risk streaming option Thursday.
JULY 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Rough outing in loss Rodriguez (0-2) went 4.1 innings and took the loss against Toronto on Friday, allowing eight runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking two.
Impact Rodriguez was tagged for eight earned runs on Friday, giving up three home runs, two two-RBI doubles, and an RBI single before he was pulled in the middle of the fifth inning. The young righty hasn't seen much time this season, pitching in just five games total, starting in four of them. With Eduardo Rodriguez still on the shelf and Casey Mize set to undergo Tommy John surgery, the Tigers will have a tough decision on if they want to stick with Rodriguez and his 11.51 ERA or look elsewhere for pitching help.
JUNE 11, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Sent down following rough start Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following Friday's start against the Blue Jays, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact Rodriguez gave up 10 runs against the Yankees last week and didn't fare much better against Toronto on Friday. The right-hander allowed eight runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two in 4.1 innings to take the loss, bringing his record this season to 0-2. Rodriguez will lose his spot in the rotation following his pair of subpar outings and will attempt to sort things out in the minors. The Tigers haven't yet announced who will take on a starting role following Rodriguez's demotion.

Blasted for 10 runs Rodriguez (0-1) allowed 10 runs on 11 hits and two walks over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Yankees.
Impact Rodriguez turned in a pair of scoreless frames before things began to unravel in the third inning. Two of the four home runs he allowed came during the third, including Aaron Judge's solo shot with two outs. The other two were given up during the fifth and he was bounced from the contest after Matt Carpenter's two-run blast. Rodriguez's season ERA ballooned to 10.13 through 16 innings. He's currently projected for a home matchup with the Blue Jays next week.
JUNE 4, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Cleared to make next start Rodriguez (lower body) is listed as the Tigers' scheduled starting pitcher for Friday's road game against the Yankees, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact After striking out four Guardians through four scoreless frames in his second career MLB start last Sunday, Rodriguez was pulled in the fifth inning after developing lower-body cramping. The right-hander is apparently feeling fine again after some rest and getting rehydrated, so he'll be in the clear to make his third turn through the rotation this weekend. Detroit still has six other starting pitchers currently residing on the injured list, so barring an implosion in New York, Rodriguez should have a good chance at sticking in the rotation beyond this weekend.
JUNE 2, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Leaves with cramping Rodriguez was removed from Sunday's start against the Guardians with lower-body cramping, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact Rodriguez experienced the cramping while throwing his warmup pitches for the fifth inning, and he was forced to leave the game. The right-hander delivered four scoreless frames prior to his exit, but the injury prevented him from possibly picking up his first major-league win. The cramping is unlikely to affect the 24-year-old's availability going forward, and he seems likely to receive another turn through the rotation, especially since the Tigers have a doubleheader this week.
MAY 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Pulled with apparent injury Rodriguez was removed from Sunday's start against the Guardians with an apparent lower-body injury, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact The 24-year-old had allowed only two singles through four scoreless innings Sunday, but he appeared to tweak something when throwing his warmup pitches ahead of the fifth and subsequently limped off the field. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, leaving Rodriguez's availability for his next turn through the rotation up in the air.
MAY 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Picking up another start Rodriguez is listed as the Tigers' scheduled starter for Saturday's game against the Guardians in Detroit, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact Rodriguez will make a second straight turn through the Detroit rotation, more so because the Tigers currently have six starters on the injured list rather than as a result of his performance in his first MLB start Monday. Though the right-hander lasted five innings and took a no-decision against the Twins, he gave up four earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four. How Rodriguez performs against the Guardians will likely determine whether he or Rony Garcia sticks around as the Tigers' No. 5 starter when Matt Manning (shoulder) likely returns from the IL next week.
MAY 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Settles down after shaky start Rodriguez allowed four runs on four hits across five innings and did not factor into the decision Monday against the Twins. He walked three and struck out four.
Impact Making his first career MLB start, Rodriguez got into a hole early, as he allowed a first-inning grand slam to Max Kepler with just one out. The 24-year-old turned things around, however, and allowed only one more hit following the grand slam while retiring 14 additional batters. Rodriguez is currently slated to toe the rubber again Saturday against Cleveland, and if he can avoid big mistakes in the early going, he might be able to turn in a better overall line and possibly pick up his first win in the majors.
