Redskins' Ryan Kerrigan eyes Week 9 for return

Published Oct. 28, 2015 12:09 p.m. ET

Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan's surgery on his broken right hand was a success -- the veteran is targeting a Nov. 8 game at New England for his return.

Kerrigan sustained a third metacarpal fracture in his right hand early in Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay, and he could not return to action. Now, it's all about getting his strength back, and with two weeks to do that, Kerrigan feels confident.

“For the most part it’ll just be getting the strength back and being confident in being violent with the hand,” Kerrigan said to Redskins reporters on Tuesday.

Kerrigan has never missed a regular season game during his five-year career with the Redskins. He admits that it might be difficult to suit up if the Redskins were to play this Sunday, but the team's Week 8 bye has come at a great time for him.

“I’m hoping so. That’s the goal,” Kerrigan said. “If we were to play this Sunday it’d be a stretch to play in that. But since we do have two weeks then if things go according to plan I’ll be able to play.”
