Report: Jameis Winston has sprained ankle that's affecting his play

Published Aug. 31, 2015 2:19 p.m. ET

While rookie quarterback Jameis Winston struggled against the Cleveland Browns this past weekend, offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter broke the news that there's something hindering his play.

According to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, Winston has been dealing with an ankle sprain.

In the 31-7 loss to the Browns, Winston completed just 6-of-15 passes for 90 yards and one interception. He was also sacked four times on the night.

Even though Winston is dealing with the ankle sprain, it wasn't just the rookie who struggled, as QB Mike Glennon also couldn't get things rolling offensively. He completed just 6-of-13 passes for 64 yards, while being sacked twice.

Even with the ankle injury, Winston is still expected to be a full-go for Week 1.
