Wisconsin tabs Seahawks' Wilson for 2016 commencement address

Published Feb. 4, 2016 9:06 p.m. ET

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will deliver the commencement address for the University of Wisconsin's Class of 2016.

Wilson guided Wisconsin to a Big Ten championship and a berth in the Rose Bowl during his only season with the Badgers in 2011. He graduated from North Carolina State in three years and transferred to Wisconsin with one season of eligibility remaining.

Wisconsin Chancellor Rebecca Blank cited the off-field charitable work of Wilson along with his accomplishments on the field as the reasons for his selection.

"It's an honor to be asked to speak at any commencement ceremony, but I'm particularly excited to return to a place where I have so many great memories," said Wilson, who has led the Seahawks to the postseason in each of his four seasons, including back-to-back Super Bowl appearances following the 2013-14 seasons.
