Minnesota's Mike Zimmer impressed with rookies after Vikings minicamp

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has to be happy about the direction his team is headed, after watching several promising young players perform at rookie minicamp. From the Vikings' top picks to their undrafted free agents, Zimmer told Sid Hartman of the Star-Tribune that he's thoroughly impressed.

So, who were the standouts?

"The top two picks obviously, [cornerback] Trae Waynes came in and he did a nice job, and we still have a lot of things to do with teaching them all, but [linebacker] Eric Kendricks did a good job," Zimmer told the Star-Tribune. "I think as we keep looking, [offensive lineman] T.J. Clemmings looked very, very good in the rookie minicamp. We’re starting to get them going in the second phase of our program now. They are all doing a good job, really."

Beyond the top rookie prospects, Zimmer expressed some interest in an undrafted quarterback.

"Taylor Heinicke, he has done a nice job," Zimmer said, per the Star-Tribune. "He throws the ball well and seems to be smart in making decisions and things like that."

Chances are Teddy Bridgewater's not losing any sleep, but the 2015 youth movement in Minnesota, which includes 10 draft picks and 10 UDFAs, is certainly underway.
