Mike Wallace: Minnesota Vikings CB Terence Newman can play until 40

Wide receiver Mike Wallace and cornerback Terence Newman both landed with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason—Wallace via trade, Newman via free agency. Even though they've only been teammates for a few months, the veteran defender has already made an impact on the pass-catcher he so often covers at practice, according to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press.

"That's my guy," Wallace told the Pioneer Press about his relationship with Newman, who turns 37 in September. "I think he has at least another three or four years in him if he wants to. I think he can be a 40-year-old cornerback."

Newman has been a starting-caliber cornerback ever since the Dallas Cowboys drafted him fifth overall out of Kansas State back in 2003. He played his first nine seasons in Dallas and made his only two Pro Bowl appearances as a Cowboy. He has spent the last three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Now entering his 13th NFL season, Newman told the Pioneer Press that he still has some gas left in the tank.

"I just realize that if you can play football, you can play football; you either have it or you don't," Newman said. "At some point, the team will let you know, or your body will let know, that you don't have it—and you move on."

Newman has 172 starts under his belt and has intercepted 37 passes, returning three for touchdowns, during his career.
