Greg Hardy sleeping at Amerian Top Team in pursuit of MMA career
Former NFL Pro Bowler Greg Hardy is actually sleeping at the world renowned American Top Team gym as he continues to pursue a career in MMA
Troubled NFL castoff Greg Hardy is serious about pursuing a career as a professional mixed martial arts fighter. So serious, in fact, he’s actually sleeping at the world renowned American Top Team gym in Coconut Creek Florida.
“He’s staying in the dorms we have upstairs,” AAT head coach Matt Brown told TMZ Sports. “It’s for guys who are really in intensive training.”
Hardy, a former NFL Pro-Bowler, previously announced his intentions of trading in his cleats for a pair of 4oz gloves earlier this year. While some fighters welcomed him, others were far less accepting.
But according to Brown, the Mississippi native’s work ethic has continued to impress.
“He seems to have the drive and desire,” said Brown. “He took boxing last night, jiu-jitsu today. He was training with Steve Mocco, our wrestling coach, who was in the Olympics.”
In terms of his football career, Hardy was essentially given a 12-game tryout last year with the Dallas Cowboys. While he did record six sacks, this was a far cry from his Pro Bowl season with the Panthers where fans saw him rack up 15 after 11 sacks in back-to-back seasons.
During his time in Carolina, Hardy showed all the tools to become one of the league’s most dominant defensive players for years to come. But all this changed following a grizzly, alleged assault on his girlfriend. According to police reports, Hardy threatened to kill her while dragging her around before throwing her on a bed covered with assault rifles.
His reputation had become so toxic, almost no teams were willing to give him a shot at extending his NFL career. While he did received tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars while also being tied to rumors with the Washington Redskins, both teams chose to pass on the Mississippi native.
According to his team, Hardy weighs around 285 pounds and is expected to debut as a heavyweight when whenever he books his first fight.
