Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles activated from PUP list, ready to practice

The Kansas City Chiefs are welcoming back a huge piece of their offense this week. The team announced that four-time Pro Bowl selection Jamaal Charles has been activated off the physically unable to perform list and is expected to practice Tuesday on a limited basis.

Charles suffered a torn ACL in Week 5 last season, ending his year early due to a knee injury for the second time in five years. He had been averaging 5.1 yards per carry before going down in October, scoring five total touchdowns in four-plus games.

Charles, 29, has remained on track to return for the start of the 2016 season, with this move further proving he’ll be on the field in Week 1. The Chiefs will still be extremely cautious with Charles given his injury history, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.

The last time Charles was coming off an ACL injury, he rushed for 1,509 yards and five touchdowns in 2012. That was the last season in which he played all 16 games.
