White Sox claim RHP Cleto off waivers from Royals

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) The Chicago White Sox have claimed right-handed pitcher Maikel Cleto on waivers from the Kansas City Royals.

The White Sox made the move Wednesday. They designated infielder Jake Elmore for assignment.

The 24-year-old Cleto pitched in one game for the St. Louis Cardinals last year. He was a combined 3-5 with a 5.52 ERA in Triple-A for St. Louis and Kansas City, pitching as both a starter and reliever.

Cleto made 13 relief appearances for the Cardinals in the last three seasons with a 10.34 ERA.

The 26-year-old Elmore was claimed off waivers from Houston in November. He hit .242 with two homers and six RBIs in 52 games for the Astros last season.
