Rays activate Scott from DL

Published Aug. 21, 2012 10:17 p.m. ET

The Tampa Bay Rays have activated designated hitter Luke Scott from the 15-day disabled list and optioned infielder Sean Rodriguez to Triple-A Durham.

The moves were announced before the Rays played Kansas City on Tuesday night.

Scott missed 28 games because of a strained right oblique. He was in Tuesday's lineup as the DH.

Also, Evan Longoria was listed as the starting third baseman Tuesday. It is the first time that Longoria will have played defense since April 30 when he partially tore his left hamstring sliding into second base.

Longoria, activated from the 60-day disabled list on Aug. 7, was the DH in 12 games since his return.
