Diamondbacks VP recovering after heart surgery

Published Feb. 26, 2010 2:29 a.m. ET

Arizona Diamondbacks executive Bob Gebhard is recovering after heart surgery.

Team officials say Gebhard, who is vice president and special assistant to the general manager, underwent successful surgery Thursday at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson to insert two stints after it was discovered he had blockage in an artery.

They say Gebhard suffered a mild heart attack Wednesday and was taken to University Physicians Hospital near the team's spring training complex in Tucson.

Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes says Gebhard is expected to make a full recovery and should be released from the hospital in a few days.
