Vikings guard Alex Boone suffers hip injury against Panthers

Alex Boone left the game against the Carolina Panthers with a hip injury during week 3, and now the Minnesota Vikings guard will need an MRI.

The offensive line of the Minnesota Vikings took another hit during the week 3 game against the Carolina Panthers. Veterans John Sullivan and Phil Loadholt moved on from the team this preseason, leaving holes to be filled. Then, Matt Kalil went down with an injury.

Now, it is recently acquired guard Alex Boone that is facing some trouble. According to an article on the Pioneer Press website, the former 49ers lineman suffered a hip injury during the second quarter of Sunday’s game and it will force him to undergo an MRI.

During the game, Jeremiah Sirles took Boone’s place and played at a pretty high level. In fact, the offense looked completely different in the second half of the Vikings game against the Panthers, which could be due to wearing down the defense, personnel, or strategic adjustments.

According to the Pioneer Press, that MRI will happen when the team returns to Minnesota.

Thankfully, it looks like the Vikings are prepared in the event that Boone will miss time on the offensive line. Sirles may not have the same kind of resume or vocal leadership as Boone on the field, but so far his play on the offensive line leads fans to believe that he can fill in for the veteran lineman and play at a high level.

Hopefully, the Minnesota Vikings won’t have to do without their biggest free agent acquisition of the offseason for very long. The attitude he brings to the football field and mean streak he’s shown over the course of his career would be huge for the offensive line. However, if time is needed for him to heal, Sirles should be fine as a temporary replacement.
