Steelers vs. Giants: Five questions with the enemy

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Steelers have gotten back on track thanks to some solid victories over the Browns and Colts but they face a tough challenge with the New York Giants in town.

Throughout the season Still Curtain will team up with the opposing team from the FanSided Network to get a little intel and perhaps do a little predicting and/or trash talking for the upcoming game.

Today we have Curt Macysyn of GMen HQ, the New York Giants-themed site from the FanSided Network. Curt is here bringing us the info on the relationship between Odell Beckham Jr. and the kicking net and Jason Pierre-Paul’s fingers. He also provides us with a prediction for the game with score.

What change this season proved to be better for the Giants? Was it finally letting Tom Coughlin go or Eli finally getting to be the best Manning in the league by default?

Neither. But your not too subtle dig at Eli is noted. It was the spending spree that brought Olivier Vernon, Janoris Jenkins and Damon Harris to the defense. Add the major improvement of safety Landon Collins and the return to form of Jason Pierre-Paul, and now you have the story. Now I get the impression that the Steelers may not respect the Giants defense, and if that’s the case, you guys may learn the hard way. As far as Manning, Eli has as many Super Bowl rings as Peyton and Big Ben, and Eli has not missed a game in his career. Ben has played 16 games three times in his career. Just sayin’

How much are Giants fans hoping for a NYGvsNE Part III Super Bowl?

In all candor, it’s not really talked about. The Giants’ first win over New England was validated by the second win, so we really have nothing to gain. In Super Bowl runs, we’ve beaten Green Bay and San Francisco, as well as Dallas, so check, check and check. I do think the fan base would be excited to see a Steelers – Giants match-up though. We have not been to the playoffs in four years, so playing anyone in the post season would satisfy the fans.

Next: OBJ and the kicking net

How do Giants fans feel toward Odell Beckham Jr.? Is it in direct correlation to how many kicking nets he’s beating up on the sidelines?

The fans absolutely love OBJ. And he made up with the kicking net anyway, so they are good. I look around and see diva receivers on almost every roster, including one on the Steelers roster. Teams game plan specifically for Beckham, and he still puts up the stats. The other thing to like about Beckham is that he doesn’t put up garbage time stats, most of his touchdowns directly impact the game. Can he grow up a little? Yes, but the production definitely outweighs the headaches. Show me a general manager who says he doesn’t want Beckham, and I’ll show you a liar.

Next: JPP might get more sacks than he has fingers

Jason Pierre-Paul has got to be in the running for NFL Comeback Player of the Year based on the season he’s having. If JPP keeps improving do you think it will lead to other players blowing off their fingers to increase their sack numbers?

I don’t think his accident will start a trend, but in the NFL you never know, it’s such a copycat league. If you have not watched the Giants this season, you will be surprised at how dominate JPP will be controlling the line of scrimmage. Obviously it was not a smart thing that he did, but covering the Giants I can see it actually made him more humble and appreciate playing in the league.

What is your prediction for the game?

Most everyone thinks that the Giants are a product of their schedule, but this isn’t college either. You can only play who the schedule-makers give you that week. Most of the folks around here respect Mike Tomlin and the Steelers, so we are looking forward to this challenge. A win against the Steelers will validate the 8-3 record, and it will validate the six game winning streak, so there is a lot on the line here. Based on the past four years, I was a skeptic about the G-Men, but their win against the Cincinnati Bengals made me a believer. Right now, you can say that the Bengals are a non-factor, and that’s true. But the Giants broke their spirit that game. I see it this way: Giants 24 Steelers 20
